About

About the company

West Indies Tutor is a Barbadian business (registration #60883) registered in 2017 when we began to truly put plans in motion after testing the concept. The business was born with the desire to help develop our students as well as assist parents and students with an added convenience and flexibility in these increasingly hectic times. Parents know how challenging it can be to work or run errands and manage getting children to and from lessons. Tertiary level students  and adult learners can also be faced with difficult schedules and in some cases have to work and study at the same time, therefore, this online service has the potential to bring some level of alleviation to these challenges. The idea has been on hold while working on other projects and then due to detailed planning. We then spent years in development, conducting rigorous testing, negotiating licences, dealing with changes in technology (the change from flash was one of the major changes and challenges) and other external factors beyond our control, but with the addition of a pandemic it was thought it is time to bring the service fully to life.

West Indies Tutor hopes to fill a void as it relates to online resources and be part of a push to encourage Barbados and the Caribbean to continue to advance, harness and embrace technology as a driving force to success.

Our Mission:

Our mission is to harness and embrace technology as a means of enhancing the traditional educational methods to create a 100% online tutoring and learning experience for educators and students in the Caribbean.

Our Vision:

To exceed internal and external customer needs throughout the Caribbean as we empower our people through education to act together as a driving force for growth and sustainability in the Caribbean region.

About the online tutoring service

Online tutoring sessions are real time sessions occurring between students and tutors over the internet on our website through the use of an online interactive learning environment. The online environment is equipped with interactive educational tools, text as well as voice chat and streaming video so that students can see and hear tutors. Students can also utilise cameras and microphones to communicate with tutors, all done without a need to leave the comfort of your home or wherever you choose to have your session.

Tutoring sessions have a whiteboard that both the tutors and students can write or type on and tutors can give access to tools on the board to make it a fully interactive learning experience. Additionally, not only is there the ability to upload documents and images for use on the white board, but tutors can also harness the power of the internet to pull relevant information directly to the whiteboard. With online tutoring students not only benefit from the priceless traditional guidance of knowledgeable tutors but with the added benefits of technology to aid in the learning process.

So actual tutoring sessions conducted online regardless of your location and to make things even better, all you need is a computer with an up to date web browser (Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer, Safari are some of the most common), internal or external speakers and microphone and a high-speed internet connection.

If it sounds good, that’s because it is! Take a look at what the Online Tutoring Environment (Interactive Learning Environment) looks like.
